The Academy was established by the “Basic Law of the Royal Serbian Academy” adopted in the Parliament and proclaimed by King Milan Obrenovic. Pursuant to the Law, the first academicians and correspondents were appointed by the king, the protector of the Academy. Based on Article 7, of the Basic Law on the SRA, the National Library and National Museum were under the custody of the Academy.
