About The Gallery
The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts had founded the Gallery of the Serbian
Academy of Sciences and Arts at the end of the 70-ies of the 20th century.
The rights and the duties of the founder are exercised by SASA. Since its
foundation the Gallery is not independent, but a unit within the framework of
the Academy. The Gallery is managed by the director pursuant to the decisions
passed by the Gallery's Expert Council.
The core activity of the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is
organization of study, problem-oriented, topical, retrospective, monographic
exhibitions in the sphere of art, science and culture, issuing of publications,
organization of lectures related to the exhibitions, collection and-safe
keeping of items of visual arts owned by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and
Arts.
Besides the standing musical programme - concerts, the Gallery also organizes
lectures - accompanied by film and slide projections, promotions, expert
gatherings, awarding of prizes from the Ivan Tabakovic Fund, etc.
Located in the strict center of the old city, in the pedestrian zone, between
several museums, faculties, libraries, galleries and foreign cultural centers,
the SASA Gallery is one of the most frequented galleries in the country. The
average number of visitors of a single exhibition is around 30,000. The average
annual number of visitors of exhibitions is around 180,000.
The Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is operating in the
adapted part of the Academy building on the premises which were not
specifically built for the purpose of exhibition area and keeping works of art.
The Gallery disposes with exhibition area of about 550 m2 for the
exhibition activities, and this area is used partially or entirely for the
occasional exhibition of works from the Art Collection of the Serbian Academy
of Sciences and Arts and for concerts.
The main Gallery activity is financed by SASA, namely by the Ministry of
Science, Technology and Development, whereas certain projects are financed by
the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia and the Department of Culture
of the Belgrade City Hall. The Gallery receives occasionally a modest part of
the assets from sponsors.
The Gallery's exhibition room is open, during the concertseason, every day except Mondays,
from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. (from April 15 until October 15, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.), Thursdays from
11 a.m. until 4 p.m. When no concerts are performed at the Gallery, outside the concert season,
the Gallery is open to the visitors of exhibitions every day from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
The concerts at the Gallery are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 p.m., and
the concert season lasts from the beginning of October until the end of June.
