SASA ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE OCCASSION OF DECLARING THE YEAR 2009 AS THE YEAR OF MILUTIN MILANKOVIĆ

At the proposal of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Government of the Republic of Serbia has brought the Decision (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia No.16 dated March 6, 2009) on marking the year 2009 as the year of Milutin Milanković.
At the same Session, the Government passed the Decision on establishing the Board for Marking the Jubilee of 130 Years since the Birth of Milutin Milanković.
Nikola Hajdin, President of SASA was appointed as the President of the Board, Božidar Đelić, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technological Development, Žarko Obradović, Minister of Education, Nebojša Bradić, Minister of Culture and Oliver Dulić, Minister of Environment and Spacial Planning were appointed as members of the Board. Boris Tadić, the President of Serbia and Mirko Cvetković, Prime Minister are appointed honorary members of the Board.
The Board is established at the highest level for the purpose of emphasizing the importance of the jubilee and coordinating the activities concerning the celebration of the jubilee of one hundred and thirty years since the birth of Milutin Milanković.
In view of the complexity and significance of the scientific engagement of Milutin Milanković, it is foreseen that expert teams will be formed that will deal with the realization of every single phase of the jubilee.
UNESKO listed the jubilee of one hundred and thirty years since the birth of Milutin Milanković among the prominent anniversaries.
SASA is currently hosting the exhibition The Canon of Milutin Milanković, whereas the international scientific symposium „Climate Changes at the Beginning of the Second Decade of the Present Century”, under the patronage of UNESCO, has been scheduled for the autumn, 22nd-25th September 2009.
