The Visit of Archbishop of Venice and Cardinal Angelo Scola to SASA

The Cardinal Angelo Scola, Archbishop of Venice, visited, with his associates, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The Cardinal was received by the President of SASA Nikola Hajdin and the talks were also attended by: Academician Ljubiša Rakić, Vice-President of SASA, Academician Dimitrije Stefanović, General Secretary of SASA, Monsignor Stanislav Hočevar, Belgrade Archbishop, Papal Nuncio Orlando Antonioni.
In his welcome speech the Belgrade Archbishop Stanislav Hočevar expressed his gratitude for the reception, emphasizing that Cardinal Scola is a distinguished expert in the domain of philosophy, anthropology and theology who is very well acquainted with the condition of today's world and who endeavors to establish a dialogue between modern sciences and religion.
Cardinal Scola stressed that he was very pleased that this historical visit to the Academy, that stands in as an institution with long tradition, took place and expressed his hope that its members support the idea of connecting sciences through a dialogue. Christianity, namely Catholic Christianity, makes efforts to become open towards all inventions of the modern world and engaged by making contributions to answers to questions like ‘what is a man?' and ‘what is a community?' The religion may play important role in the process of dialogue and throwing light on such and other questions. In the dialogue between technical sciences and humanities it is important to apply interdisciplinary approach since it leads to better understanding among the variety of scientific disciplines.
The guests accentuated that the Serbian nation, with all its spirituality, disposes with the capacity for making the osmosis between technical and humanist block and that the Serbia's access to the European Union will help the community become capable of enriching technical sciences with spirituality.
It was generally concluded that this visit and talks stand for a good example of how future relations should develop, and how the understanding between different religions, as well as the dialogue between sciences and religions, should be established.
