Academic Steva Todorčević Receives Exceptional Recognition

On December 14, the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques, the Fields Institute and the Pacific Institute for Mathematical Sciences announced that the prestigious 2012 CRM-Fields-PIMS Prize in mathematical sciences had been awarded to Stevo Todorcevic from the University of Toronto.

The announcement states that Professor Todorcevic obtained his Ph.D. in Belgrade in 1979 and currently holds a Canada Research Chair at the University of Toronto. His contributions to set theory made him a world leader in this topic with a particular impact on combinatorial set theory and its connections with topology and analysis. His work is recognized for its outstanding originality and technical brilliance. The announcement further states the specific information on his contributions for which he was an invited speaker at numerous significant gatherings organized throughout the world, such as the 1998 International Congress of Mathematicians in Berlin.
