150 years since the birth of Mihailo Petrović Alas

As part of the ceremonies marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Academician Mihailo Petrović Alas (1868‒1943) a solemn session and a scholarly gathering dedicated to our great mathematician and founder of the Serbian school of mathematics will be held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts on Tuesday, Oct. 2. At the solemn session, which starts at 11 a.m., the attendees will be addressed by Academician Vladimir S. Kostić, SASA President, Prof. Žarko Mijajlović, Academician Stevan Pilipović, Academician Gradimir Milovanović, and Mihajlo Pantić, PhD. The music part of the program will feature performances by Milica Žugić, violin, Ljubomir Trujanović, violin, and Marko Lukić, accordion.

The conference, Mihailo Petrović Alas: His Life, Work and Times opens at the SASA Grand Hall on the same day, at 2 p.m.  During the conference (Oct. 2 – 3), there will be lectures by a number of speakers on the person and work of Mihailo Petrović Alas, with special emphasis on the circumstances and times in which he lived and worked.
