Academician Boško D. Petrović passes away

Academician Boško D. Petrović, a civil engineer, passed away in London, on 6 May. He was born in Aleksinac, in 1926, but he grew up and was educated in Belgrade. He obtained his BSc (1951) and PhD (1977) at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, having defended PhD thesis titled “Performance of Prestressed Concrete Skeleton Structure Buildings under the Earthquake Load”. He started his professional career as an assistant of Branko Žeželj, working on introduction and development of prestressed concrete in Yugoslavia. A major part of his research work was carried out at the Institute for Testing of Materials of Serbia, in Belgrade (until 1990), and he taught at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Novi Sad.

He was elected SASA Corresponding Member in 1985, and a full member in 2006.

Academician B. Petrović was a member of various organizations such as: Yugoslav Society for Prestressed Concrete, Society of Engineering and Technicians of Federal Republic of Serbia, International Federation for Prestressing (FIP), European Committee for Earthquake Engineering, etc. He was awarded the Bronze Recognition for Lifetime Achievement (2011) of Yugoslav Society of Civil Engineering Constructors, Award of Council of Science and Culture of the Socialistic Republic of Serbia, Order of the Third Class and Order of Labour with Golden Wreath.
