Collection of papers on the Serbian artistic heritage in Kosovo and Metohija

On Thursday, May 10, at 12 p.m., the SASA Grand Hall will be the venue for the presentation of the collection of papers, Artistic Heritage of the Serbian People in Kosovo and Metohija – History, Identity, Vulnerability, Protection, published by SASA. The speakers at the event will be Academician Vladimir S. Kostić, SASA President, Academician Gojko Subotić, Academician Aleksandar Loma, Corresponding Member Miodrag Markovič, and Prof. Dragan Vojvodić, PhD.

The Collection is a publication accompanying the exhibition, Serbian Artistic Heritage in Kosovo and Metohija. Identity, Significance, Vulnerability, organized in November of 2017 at the SASA Gallery. The studies published in the Collection additionally corroborate, expound and supplement the main messages of the exhibition. The Collection has been published in both Serbian and English.

As Corresponding member Miodrag Marković explains, the contributions to the Collection were written by renowned specialists, including members of three academies (Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Russian Academy of Arts, and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters), university professors and associates of scientific institutes, museums and institutions charged with the protection of monuments of culture.

The contributions are divided into two parts. The first part, titled “Serbs and Kosovo”, deals with the place and role of Kosovo and Metohija in the history of the Serbian people (four contributions) and sheds light on the sources of Serbian spirituality and national being in Kosovo and Metohija (three contributions). The other part, titled “Serbian Artistic Heritage in Kosovo and Metohija”, is divided into four main sections: “The European Framework and Serbian Distinctiveness of Medieval Art” (three contributions), “History of Creation” (nine contributions), “History of Tribulation” (four contributions), and “Struggle for Preservation” (four contributions).
