Exhibition ’Sofia and Belgrade – Archaeological Pearls’

On the occasion of 15 years of cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in the field of archaeology, an exhibition of photographs ’Sofia and Belgrade – Archaeological Pearls’ is scheduled to be open at the corner of Knez Mihailova and Vuka Karadžića streets, in front of the SASA Gallery, on Friday, 14 June, at 12 o’clock. In addition to this anniversary, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is marking 150 years of its establishment, while the city of Sofia is celebrating 140 years of its being the capital of Bulgaria. Academician Vladimir S. Kostić, SASA President and Corresponding Member Vasil Nikolov,Vice President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences have the honour of opening the exhibition.

Both Belgrade and Sofia have a strong tradition of archaeology: archaeological research has been carried out for more than 100 years, and the results have had a great impact on academic community. There are numerous archaeological sites in both cities, which significantly advanced the understanding of the past of the Balkan’s wider area.

The goal of the exhibition of selected photographs of recent archaeological discoveries is to remember layered cultural and monumental heritage, as well as to contribute to its better understanding and preservation. The organizers of the event are the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Archaeological Institute from Belgrade and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
