Works by composers academicians in nine Serbian cities

Following the successfully realized series of travelling exhibitions ‘SASA Art Collection – Academicians-Artists’ which made it possible for audience across the country to see capital artworks of SASA members, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is launching a concert series in October entitled ‘Music of Composers-Academicians, Travelling across Serbia’. As a result, in nine cities of Serbia (Leskovac, Niš, Kragujevac, Knjaževac, Zaječar, Subotica, Novi Kneževac, Novi Sad, Belgrade) representative works of 20th and 21st-century music composed by renowned composers-members of SASA: Stanojlo Rajičić, Vlastimir Peričić, Vlastimir Trajković, Vasilije Mokranjac, Ljubica Marić, Dejan Despić, Isidora Žebeljan, Svetislav Božić and Ivan Jevtić will be performed throughout this October. The compositions feature a wide range of instruments (piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe) while the performers are young, distinguished musicians: Igor Dražević, piano; Vladimir Gligorić, piano; Dušan Panajotović, violin; Borislav Čičovački, oboe; Marko Marković, oboe; Ivan Jarić, cello; Mina Gligorić, soprano; Minja Marčetić, flute and Marina Popović, viola.

This project, aiming to promote Serbian music culture and decentralize Serbian cultural area, was initiated by Academician Vladimir S. Kostić, SASA president. Prior to each concert, SASA president or one of the composers-academicians will give an introductory speech. The SASA mission will thus be illustrated to the public and national music endorsed, which is critical since it has been unfairly neglected and more performed and celebrated abroad.

The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia has supported and largely provided funds for the project.
