In the year in which the National Library of Serbia is marking 50 years of the ceremonial opening of a specially built edifice for the national library, an exhibition of works from its art collection has been planned, particularly the works marked as the cultural property of the Republic of Serbia, which have not been available to the public since the Library’s refurbishment in 2007.
The Exhibition is organized by the National Library of Serbia, in cooperation with the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
By this action, the National Library of Serbia is leaving the compounds of its building and presenting to the public the abundance of its insufficiently recognized funds. The paintings reached the National Library of Serbia in various manners: by donations, legacies, gifts, purchases, and even by being put away to this cultural institution in crisis, in order for some works to be preserved, where they have remained to this day, thus becoming an integral part of the Collection.
The authors of the Exhibition and accompanying publication are Mirjana Simoski of the Department for Cultural Agenda and Public Relations Department, and Dušan Zlokolica, the director of cultural programmes of the National Library of Serbia.
