Forum on Roma Plight in the Second World War

The SASA Board for the Study of Life and Customs of Roma is organizing the first Roma forum to commemorate the International Roma Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday, 16 December, at 1 p.m. at the SASA Grand Hall. This event is to be dedicated to recent scientific research regarding Roma’s plight during the Second World War. During the Forum, two monographs will be presented – one dealing with Roma plight in Jasenovac Concentration Camp, which will be introduced by its author Dr Dragoljub Acković, and the second one on Roma plight in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Second World War which will be discussed by historian Dr Milan Koljanin from the ‘Staro Sajmište’ Memorial Centre and Dejan Marković, executive director of the Roma Forum of Serbia.

Furthermore, Dr Biljana Sikimić will provide an overview of scientific research on Roma’s plight in Europe during the war. The event will feature a short documentary titled ‘Roma Culture of Remembrance of the Second World War’ authored by Dejan Marković and Katarina Vražalić.
