International Symposium on the Physics of Ionized Gases (SPIG 2026)
The 33rd Summer School and International Symposium on the Physics of Ionized Gases (SPIG 2026) will be officially opened on Wednesday, 26 August, at the SASA Grand Hall, at 9 a.m. The symposium is organized jointly by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Institute of Physics Belgrade, an institute of national importance for the Republic of Serbia.
The International Symposium on the Physics of Ionized Gases has a tradition spanning more than six decades. The first SPIG conference was held in Belgrade in 1962, and since then it has been organized biennially without interruption. As part of the event, two specialized workshops will also be held on the day preceding the official opening: the 3rd Workshop on Swarm Physics and Gaseous Dielectrics (SPGD) and the 5th Workshop on X-ray and VUV Interaction with Biomolecules in Gas Phase (XiBiGP).
The scientific program of SPIG 2026 covers research in the fields of atomic collision processes, particle and laser-radiation interactions with materials, as well as the physics of low-temperature and general plasmas, including fusion and astrophysical systems and collective phenomena.
In addition to scientific presentations, the symposium traditionally includes the Summer School on the Physics of Ionized Gases, intended for young researchers. The Summer School provides participants with an opportunity to present their research results in an environment that brings together leading experts from around the world in various fields of plasma physics.
Around 150 researchers are expected to participate in the 33rd International Symposium on the Physics of Ionized Gases. During the symposium, 69 invited lectures will be delivered, 58 of them by eminent scientists from abroad.
