Panel discussion ‘Citizen Science in Role of Advancement and Popularization of Faunistic Science in Serbia’
The panel discussion ‘Citizen Science in Role of Advancement and Popularization of Faunistic Science in Serbia’ will be held on Monday, 4 November, at 10 a.m. in Hall 2 of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The organizer of the event is the Academy Board for the Study of Fauna of Serbia.
Active participation of citizens in research, i.e. citizen science is increasingly becoming a more popular manner of data collection, above all about the natural world. Citizens thus contribute to science and simultaneously learn about their environment, raising awareness on important scientific topics.
The panel discussion is designed for a broad audience, with special emphasis on representatives from the academic community, government bodies, and institutions in science and environmental protection (such as relevant ministries, the Centre for Science Promotion, the Environment Protection Institute of Serbia, the Environmental Protection Agency, and managers of protected areas). The goal of the meeting is to enhance the understanding of the phenomenon of citizen science, evaluate its achievements, opportunities and limitations, and bring the possibilities of citizen science closer to interested parties and prospective users. The gathering will feature three main topics, each presented by field experts through 15-minute talks, followed by a concluding discussion.
