Scientific Conference and Concert in Honour of Enriko Josif
On Thursday, 28 November, at 10 a.m. in the Hall 2 of the SASA Palace, the scientific conference titled ‘Enriko Josif. The Endurance of the Beauty of Singing’ marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer and academician Enriko Josif. The event is organized by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Institute of Musicology of the SASA. Later the same day, in cooperation with the SASA Board for the Protection of Serbian Musical Heritage, the concert ‘Concert of Chamber Works – In Honour of Enriko’ will take place at the SASA Gallery, at 6 p.m.
Enriko Josif (1924-2003) was one of the most prominent Serbian musical creators, intellectuals and thinkers of his time. Most of his creative output emerged during the second half of the 20th century when he produced most of his most important composer and writer works. This renowned composer of an extraordinary inventive mind, a long-standing university professor of the Musical Academy in Belgrade, a SASA Corresponding Member in the Department of Visual Art and Music from 1991 and its full member from 2000, was a spiritual thinker and writer of erudite knowledge, whose aesthetic and philosophical views were unique for the time in which he created. Josif left an enduring legacy in Serbian music culture, having given inspiring contributions to the symphonic, concert, chamber and vocal-instrumental fields, he enriched the spiritual junction of national creativity of the second half of the 20th century with his musical gift and intellectual endeavours.
The event will shed light on the most important spheres of his activities, while the concert will feature the most accomplished chamber compositions from Josif’s extensive composer opus.
