Scientific conference – Djordje Radić, the Founder of the Contemporary Agriculture in Serbia

On the occasion of 180 years since the birth of Djordje Radić, the first doctor of agricultural sciences among Serbs, a scientific conference titled ‘Djordje Radić, the Founder of the Contemporary Agriculture in Serbia’ opens at the SASA Grand Hall, on Tuesday, 8 June, at 9 a.m. He is one of the most significant agricultural experts Serbia had in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work, in addition to the professional scope, encompasses educational-teaching endeavours since he was a founder of the first agricultural schools in Serbia and Montenegro, as well as educational-publicist tasks having been the author of a dozen publications in all fields of agriculture. He was also the editor of the journal ‘Težak’ and one of the founders of ‘The Association of Field Agriculture’. The quality and importance of his actions were recognized by higher authorities. He was an honorary member of the Serbian Royal Academy, as well as a full, correspondent or honorary member of 67 agricultural and cultural societies. He is the holder of 14 Serbian and international orders.

The opening ceremony will feature the addresses of Academician Zoran Popović, vice-president of SASA, Milan Krkobabić, minister for rural welfare in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Academician Dragan Škorić, president of the Academy Board for Rural Issues, and Dr Igor Marić, president of The Union of Engineers and Technicians of Serbia. Twelve lectures by our eminent experts in the field of agriculture and related fields will be delivered afterward.
