Scientific Conference Honouring Academician Vladimir R. Petković
The scientific conference titled ‘Vladimir R. Petković: A Founding Figure of Institutional and Academic Realm’ is set to take place on Friday, 29 November, at the SASA Hall 3, at 10 a.m.
The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts declared 2024 the year of Academician Vladimir R. Petković (1874-1956), an art historian and archaeologist, university professor, a long-standing director of the National Museum and the first director of the Archaeological Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences, thus marking 150 years of his birth. On this occasion, the exhibition ‘Vladimir R. Petković: A Founding Figure of Institutional and Academic Realm’ was organized at the SASA Gallery (24 September – 8 December), which gave the opportunity to wider public to learn about Pektović’s professional path and scientific legacy.
The eponymous scientific conference, which is to take place on 29 November, at 10 a.m (SASA, Hall 2), represents an opportunity to shed light on Petković’s cursus honorum and cursus studiorum by 12 eminent experts in the fields of art history, archaeology, philology, musicology. At the upcoming conference, Petković’s scientific methodology, his pedagogical work, heritage preservation, and research results of early Christian and medieval heritage, primarily medieval artworks, will be put into context and evaluated. The last but not the least, Petković’s management and organization of important archaeological studies will also be put in focus.
