Exhibition at the SASA Gallery: ‘The Giants of Serbian Civil Engineering – from School of Engineering to Present Day’

The exhibition ‘The Giants of Serbian Civil Engineering – from School of Engineering to Present Day’, authored by Jasmina Njegovan-Popović, art historian and publishing editor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Belgrade, opens at the SASA Gallery, on Wednesday, 30 March, at 7 p.m. The exhibition reviewers are Academician Miodrag Marković and Professor Miodrag Jovanović.

The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Museum of Science and Technology from Belgrade and presents an event through which the Faculty of Civil Engineering marks the 175th anniversary of its existence.  The project incorporates the life and works of doyens of engineering whose work created the history of Serbian civil engineering and geodesy, as well as the history of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

The exhibition presents the history of this renowned institution of higher education through archival materials – from the creation of the School of Engineering in 1846, to the foundation and development of the Faculty of Engineering.  Academic and civil engineering undertakings of engineers of the Faculty of Engineering represent a part of the cultural heritage inherited by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts since there are 24 academicians among distinguished professors and civil engineers, whose works are presented at the exhibition.

The exposition consists of printed and archival materials illustrating the history of the Faculty, biographies and works of academicians – the Faculty professors, renowned engineers, as well as models of completed buildings of professors of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The audience will have the opportunity to see valuable exhibits – instruments and tools of civil and geodetic engineers of the second part of the 19th and 20th centuries. The final part of the exhibition includes multimedia presentations of the most compelling civil engineering enterprises in Serbia since the mid 20th century, and capital projects of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, as a comprehensive overview of what the Faculty nowadays represents.

The aim of the exhibition is to familiarize the audience with academic and construction endeavours and biographies of civil and geodetic engineers and professors of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, whose works represent an important segment of the cultural heritage of Serbia.

The exhibition is open until May 3, 2022. The patron of the exhibition is the Serbian Chamber of Engineers.
