Scientific conference ‘The Roma People of Serbia per the 2022 Census – The Current State and Perspectives’

A two-day scientific conference titled ‘The Roma People of Serbia per the 2022 Census – The Current State and Perspectives’ opens at the SASA Grand Hall, on Thursday, 13 June, at 10 a.m. The Conference is organized by the SASA Board for the Study of Life and Customs of the Roma.

The final results on the number of the Roma people and their social-demographic characteristics, which were acquired through the most recent census, represent an invaluable source of data for the renewed comparison of demographic characteristics of the Roma population in a long historical census practice in Serbia. The data makes it possible to understand the distribution of the Roma people according to an individual social matrix i.e. gender, age, place of residence, level of education, employment, and personal assets, which will in a comparative perspective show which changes have occurred, both socially acceptable or unacceptable by comparison with the 2011 Census and what the future is for this still highly marginalized ethnic community.

The work of this conference will be realized in four thematic units and they are as follows: possible results of inconsistencies of the real and census number of the Roma People in Serbia, census listed data and sustainability of the Roma in Serbia, census listed data on the Roma people in Vojvodina and southern Serbia, census listed data on the Roma people in ex-Yugoslav republics.
