The Society of Serbian Letters

1862.
	7 May	The Society relocated to the building of the Ministry of Education.
	2 June	At the main session, young liberals educated at European universities, who had entered the Society in greater numbers in that year’s elections, led by Vladimir Jovanović, put forward new ideas about the importance and direction of the Society’s work and came into conflict with Prince Mihailo’s regime.
	2 June	The Society suspended its activities from June to September.

1863.
	17 May	Dimitrije Matić proposed the commencement of work on the Encyclopaedia of Science.
	29 August	The elected board adopted a plan for the work on the encyclopaedia. (Gl. SUD 27 (1870), 386–387)
	24 September	The Minister of Education, Kosta Cukić, signed The Law on the Organisation of the Higher School.
	24 September	Captain Miša Anastasijević presented his grand building to be used for education purposes. The Society sent a delegation to express its gratitude to the generous donor. (Gl. SUD 27 (1870) 388).
