SASA Executive Council

The executive body of the Assembly and Presidency of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is the Executive Council, which includes the SASA President, Vice-Presidents, General Secretary, and Presidents of SASA branches. The Council implements decisions and conclusions of the SASA Presidency and Assembly and performs all the ongoing tasks and those tasks for which the Presidency authorizes it. It monitors and ensures appropriate distribution of SASA’s financial means and property, proposes decisions and conclusions to the Presidency and Assembly, appoints members of departmental working bodies, and, within the scope of its competences, makes decisions on matters set down in the SASA Statute and its bylaws or in respective decisions of the Assembly and Presidency.

Academician ZORAN KNEŽEVIĆ
Field of work: Astronomy
The President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts represents the Academy, calls sessions of the Assembly, Presidency and Executive Council and presides over them. The President monitors the implementation of conclusions reached by the said Academy bodies and has other rights and duties provided in the SASA Statute.

Academician ZORAN V. POPOVIĆ
Field of work: Physics and New Materials
Vice-Presidents assist the President in the performance of his tasks. Vice-Presidents, each in the field he is in charge of, harmonize activities of the departments, monitor their work programs and take care that they are successfully implemented. One Vice-President is elected from among the members of the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Geo Sciences, Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences, Department of Technical Sciences or Department of Medical Sciences, and the other from among the members of the Department of Language and Literature, Department of Social Sciences, Department of Historical Sciences or Department of Visual Arts and Music. One of the Vice-Presidents is also President of the Managing Board of the SASA Fund for Research in Sciences and Arts.

SASA General Secretary

Academician NEBOJŠA LALIĆ
Field of work: Endocrinology
The General Secretary organizes and harmonizes implementation of decisions and conclusions of the SASA Assembly, Presidency and Executive Council, organizes the preparation of materials for Assembly, Presidency and Executive Council sessions. Harmonizes activities of departmental secretaries and presidents of committees, commissions and other working bodies, as well as those of directors of Academy units, and, on behalf of the Presidency, monitors the work of Academy units. The General Secretary is in charge of Academy publications and acts as editor-in-chief of Presidency publications. He also has other rights and duties provided in the SASA Statute.

SASA Executive Director

Dr. BOJAN BUGARČIĆ
The Executive Director of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts represents the Academy on the authority of the SASA President, heads the Administrative Service and organizes its work in keeping with the Academy bylaws and conclusions and decisions of the Presidency and Executive Council. The Executive Director prepares materials for Assembly, Presidency and Executive Council sessions and attends to the implementation of their decisions and conclusions. He also submits to the Assembly an annual report on the work of the Administrative Service. The Executive Director determines the rights and duties of SASA employees in keeping with the pertinent laws and SASA bylaws.
