From its emergence, marked by the discovery of the transistor and followed by the creation of the first integrated circuit in 1958, microelectronics developed at an astonishing rate. This process was driven primarily by miniaturisation, which facilitated a constant increase in the power of integrated circuits by integrating a larger number of transistors on a microchip. It was only after several years of microelectronic technologies development, in 1965,  that Gordon Moore formulated what later would be known as Moore’s law. According to the law, the number of components on an integrated circuit (microchip) is doubled each year. Moore’s Law became a metaphor for the development of integrated circuits, thus becoming one of the key motivational drivers of progress in the field.

The exhibition ’60 Years of Moore’s Law and 40 Years of Svet kompjutera Magazine’ traces the history of micro and nanoelectronics through the lens of technology development and new applications made possible by integrated circuit development. They later grew to be drivers for further investments and new technological breakthroughs. The exhibition also features some of the landmark integrated circuits, which marked the beginning of particular chapters not only in the history of electronics but in the development of human civilisation in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Microelectronics, as well as everything it has given rise to, came as a surprise to humanity, which was unprepared for everything it offered and insufficiently equipped to harness it and initiate its applications. Therefore, education has been an important complement to Moore’s Law in the domain of technology. This exhibition has been realised in cooperation with the magazine ’Svet kompjutera’, our oldest and longest-running magazine dedicated to technology, computing and their applications. Svet kompjutera has had a considerable role in the education of its readership in the fields of computer technologies, microelectronics, programming and accompanying technological achievements.
