Academician Ninoslav Stojadinović passed away

It is with great sadness that the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts announces that Ninoslav Stojadinović (b. Niš, 20 September 1950), SASA full member and president of the SASA Branch in Niš passed away on 25 December 2020, at 71.  He made an indelible mark on the field of micro and nano-electronics and contributed immensely to the constitution and overall work of the SASA Branch in Niš.

Academician N. Stojadinović’s scientific work and activities chiefly pertain to the Faculty of Electronical Engineering of the University of Niš, from which he first graduated, received his MSc and Ph.D., and then became a full professor (from 1991), dean (1989-1994) and head of the Department of Micro-Electronics (1985-2005).

Thanks to the long-term engagement of Academician Stojadinović in the organization of the international conference on micro-electronics – MIEL, this significant conference has become one of the major scientific events in this field in Europe and was put on the list of IEEE conferences. He was a member of commissions for tenure approvals and the defence of doctoral dissertations at several world universities, visiting professor at the Technical University of Wien and a member of international scientific boards at the Centre for Nanotechnology (Clemson University, USA) and the EU Centre of Excellence in Micro- and Nanotechnology Research (Technical University Warsaw, Poland). He was a member of the EU Expert Advisory Group for the EC FP7 program (2005) as well as a consultant to the National Science Foundation of the Government of Taiwan.

Scientific papers of Academician Ninoslav Stojadinović have been cited more than 530 times in publications of various internationally acclaimed authors. Based on his research in fundamental and applied sciences, a series of technological solutions have been realized, six of which have been in use in the semi-conductor industry in our country and the world. In addition to this, he was the editor of journals ‘Microelеctronics Journal’ (Elsevier), ‘Microelеctronics Reliability’ (Elsevier) and ‘Facta Universitatis, Series: Electronics and Energetics’(University of Niš) and member of numerous international expert organizations.

He was elected a corresponding member of SASA in 2003, and SASA full member in 2012. He was the first president of the SASA Branch in Niš, carrying out its tasks since 2016, during that time there were more than 250 activities realized at the Branch.

Academician Stojadinović engaged in significant political and diplomatic activities. He was a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia (1997-2000), a member of the Assembly of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, and its representative in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (2004-2006), Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia (2014-2016). He was the ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom of Sweden (2005-2011) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (2011-2013).

He received several awards and recognitions for his dedicated work.

His passing is a great loss for the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the city of Niš and the entire Serbian science.
