ACADEMICIANS VLADIMIR KOSTIĆ AND GOJKO SUBOTIĆ RECEIVE 2023 SASA MEDAL

On a session held on 25 October 2023, SASA Presidency members adopted the proposal of the Commission for the SASA Medal Award to bestow the medal in the field of natural and technical sciences on Academician Vladimir S. Kostić, while the SASA Medal in the field of social sciences and humanities was presented to Academician Gojko Subotić.

As the Commission’s statement said, the scientific opus of Academician Vladimir S. Kostić is extremely rich and key results of his research have been published in the most prestigious world journals in the field of neurology. This can be better understood by a detailed analysis of his most significant scholarly achievements which are widely recognized in the international scientific community. An impressive total citation count (over 15,000) and a high H-index (62) place him at the top of our neurological ladder (and science in general) with a high standing worldwide. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that among the researchers from Serbia who are on the Stanford list, he found himself at the very summit. In addition to the renown our neurology has garnered due to Academician Vladimir S. Kostić’s scientific work, his contribution to the development of scholarly staff and foundation of a very distinct, unique and distinguished school of neurology is immeasurable. Parallel with his engagement in scientific and educational work which continues without abatement, his productive activities at the SASA, especially during the period when he was its president, cannot be ignored.

In the statement regarding the SASA Medal presentation to Academician Gojko Subotić, it was pointed out that the basic value of his scientific contribution is evident in the ingenious combination of research within the framework of one identity science, such as the history of Serbian medieval art, and research of broad fields which include Byzantine and the so-called post-Byzantine art of the countries of the Byzantine cultural circle, with the starting point in Byzantium itself. Both scopes, the broad and the narrow ones, are inextricably linked, which greatly contributed to the impressive results of Academician Subotić’s scientific approach.

The SASA Medal award ceremony will be held at a conference which marks the Day of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts on November 20, 2023.
