Academy Celebrates Its Day
On Tuesday, 19 November, a ceremonial event was held at the SASA Grand Hall to mark the Day of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA).
In his opening address, SASA President Academician Zoran Knežević spoke about the importance of digital culture in modern times, highlighting the Audiovisual Archives and the SASA Centre for Digitization and the DAIS, a collaborative digital repository of SASA and its insitutes, as two units of the Academy by means of which SASA carries out the mission of preservation and promotion of the Serbian cultural heritage in digital form.
Reflecting on the recent elections for new members of the Academy, the SASA President stated: ’Not only was the Academy strengthened by a larger number of new members than in several previous election cycles, but the number of the newly elected members has surpassed the number of our renowned researchers and artist who left us in between two election years, which I am convinced, will lead to stopping the trend of reduction of members in our already proportionally ‘small’ Academy, reinvigorate this distinguished house and provide it with fresh energy for greater success in fulfilling its scientific, artistic, cultural, and societal roles.’
The Academy’s Day programme included the presentation of newly elected corresponding members, who received membership diplomas.
Prepared by Academician Jelena Jovanović, the musical part of the programme featured Moba female singing ensemble.
