Обележен Дан Српске академије науке и уметности

Academy’s Day was marked with a ceremonial session on Friday, 18 November. On this occasion, Academician Ljubomir Simović received SASA Medal for 2022 in the field of art. Academician Jasmina Grković Mejdžor talked about the creative work of the anthology poet, playwright and essayist, pointing out that Academician Simović contributed tremendously to the Academy’s work and with his always keen eye of an extraordinary author, he grasped social reality, therefore his ’work and creative endeavours are a roadmap to how and where one should walk to the honour of its kind.’

Academician Simović addressed the audience wondering about the book and literature’s fate in today’s digital age. Offering poetry as a solution and accentuating that the choice has been conditioned by current political and social situation, one of our most acclaimed authors read his three poems: ’Trg od oružja’, ’Mišolovka’ and ’Uporišna tačka’.

As part of the art programme, the Choir of Saint Sava’s Temple sang spiritual compositions: Oče naš [Lord’s Prayer] by Josif Marinković, Blagosloven jesi Hriste Bože naš [Blessed Art Thou, Christ, Our God] by Nikola Srbin, Voskresenije Hristovo [Resurrection of Christ]  by Svetislav Božić and Bože, bratimstva [Oh Lord, Give us Blood Brotherhood] by Davorin Jenko.

In his welcome address at the SASA Grand Hall, Academician Vladimir S. Kostić, SASA president, looked back at almost eight years he has spent at the helm of the Academy. Highlighting various challenges and the stress SASA had undergone, Academician Kostić maintained that ’SASA members must stay true to their scientific and artistic competency and freedom, as well as to their integrity and virtue, according to the example of one of our founders, great Jovan Sterija Popović: ’Whoever baulks at telling the truth to their people, they are unbefitting to teach them.’
