Assisted Reproductive Technologies: Legal, Medical and Social Aspects

The round table titled Assisted Reproductive Technologies: Legal, Medical and Social Aspects, organized by the SASA Board for the Study of National Minorities and Human Rights, took place at the SASA Hall no. 3 on 3 October. This event saw a multidisciplinary scientific approach to the issues of biomedical-assisted conception, with experts of various backgrounds, such as legal, medical, psychological or demographic ones, taking part.

Concerning the law, family-legal issues are most frequently in question, but it is particularly significant to analyse these issues from the constitutional point of view. The issues of biomedical-assisted conception, which were discussed within the round table, are related to the lawfulness of certain techniques and procedures, such as surrogate motherhood, posthumous assisted reproduction, and children’s rights to know the identity of their genetic material donor.

It should be especially noted that reproductive rights are in the sphere of human rights, therefore, the study of biomedical-assisted fertilization is also notable from this point of view.
