Brain Awareness Week is an international popular science campaign which is being organised in line with the ones in European countries, where this event has been featured for several years. The event aims to increase public awareness of advancements and possible applications of scientifically proven findings on the nervous system. The initiative was launched by DANA Alliance for Brain Initiatives in 1996, and since then, this popular campaign has brought together scientific organisations across the globe. The event takes place in collaboration with universities, scientific institutions, cultural and art centres.
This year’s campaign under the motto ’Neurons on the Edge: How Stress Affects the Brain’ focuses on the phenomenon of stress approached from various perspectives, including biological mechanisms underlying stress and the very evolutionary importance of stress in humans and animals and the medical and psychological aspects of stress as a developmental phenomenon.
In addition to the exhibition, the SASA Gallery of Science and Technology will feature a series of accompanying programmes which include expert lectures, workshops for children and interactive programmes aimed at children and adults.
