Centennial of the Birth of Academician Vojislav M. Petrović
On Friday, 17 October, at noon, a ceremonial session marking the centennial of the birth of Academician Vojislav M. Petrović (b. Mala Kamenica, 1925 – d. Belgrade, 2007), biologist and one of Serbia’s leading scientists, will be held at the Grand Hall of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. His most significant contribution lies in the foundation and development of the Belgrade School of Physiology.
He served as a professor and rector of the University of Belgrade, a full member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. He was the founder of the Department of Comparative Physiology and Ecophysiology and head of the Institute of Physiology and Biochemistry at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. He also founded the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism and was the head of the ’Siniša Stanković’ Institute for Biological Research at the University of Belgrade.
The jubilee aims to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Academician Vojislav M. Petrović by showcasing his scientific contributions to the development of physiological research in Serbia, as well as the lasting relevance of his academic legacy in contemporary scientific work, both to the scientific community and the broader public. The programme will also reflect on his life and career, marked by a profound dedication to science and creativity.
