Ceremonial event and scientific gathering on the occasion of 800 years since the consecration of Saint Sava as the first Serbian Archbishop

On the occasion of 800 years since the consecration of Saint Sava as the first Serbian archbishop, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts organizes a ceremonial event at the SASA Grand Hall, on Thursday, 12 December, at 12 o’clock. Academician Ljubomir Maksimović, SASA vice-president and Very Reverend Archimandrite Metodije, hegumen of Chilandar Monastery will give speeches, whereas commemorative compositions of Academician Svetislav Božić will be performed and excerpts from Life of Saint Sava by Domentijan, his biographer will be read. Academician Vladimir S. Kostić, SASA president shall open the event and address the audience.

The Board for Byzantine Studies and Chilandar Board of SASA, in cooperation with the Mount Athos Center in Thessaloniki, the Holy Monastery of Chilandar Endowment and the Society of Mount Athos Friends from Belgrade with the support of the City of Belgrade and the Administrative body for cooperation with churches and religious communities of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia organize a scientific forum titled ’Athonite and Chilandarian Monk Saint Sava. 800 Years since the Consecration as the First Serbian Archbishop’, also on Thursday, 12 December, at the SASA Grand Hall, at 2 p.m., which features 18 speakers and exhibitors.

The ceremonial event and scientific forum are parts of the commemorative programme which marks this extraordinary anniversary both in Thessaloniki and Belgrade in the organization of the above-mentioned institutions.
