Exhibition ‘City Area – Area of Nature’ at the SASA Gallery of Science and Technology
Organized by the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia, the exhibition ‘City Area – Area of Nature’ was opened on Thursday, 26 December, at the SASA Gallery of Science and Technology. It represents an overview of protected areas of Belgrade, selected specimens of dendroflora, natural sites and areas of outstanding value interpreted through videos, photographs and texts including eco sculptures made from secondary raw materials focusing on protected animal species inhabiting our capital.
The city and nature intertwine and enrich each other. In addition to the ecological significance which is most frequently recognized, natural sites of outstanding values in the city landscape composition are inseparable from the urban, historical and cultural toponyms. Development and urbanization of the city area encroach on the natural area, so natural resource preservation becomes a necessary condition for survival. A contemporary city dweller forgets about the primal bond with natural habitat, a unit without which they lose their natural, humane profile, thus neglecting one of the inherent needs of a human being which is to be in constant connection and touch with nature.
The exhibition ‘City Area – Area of Nature’ is the attempt of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia to familiarize the public with multiple-dimensional living sites of Belgrade, witnesses to the past which connect us to history, remembrances, memories, traditions and myths. The display aims to showcase protected areas – Belgrade’s green oasis, selected specimens of protected dendroflora and animal species in the context of conservation, evaluation and interpretation of the city area’s natural heritage.
The Exhibition will remain open until 31 January 2025.
