Exhibition ’Searching for the Beginning, Splendor and Passing Hours’ dedicated to Academicians Stevan Jakovljević and Jovan Tucakov
The exhibition ’Searching for the Beginning, Splendor and Passing Hours’ within the series titled ‘Titans of Pharmacy’ dedicated to academicians Stevan Jakovljević and Jovan Tucakov, officially opens on Tuesday, 3 September, at the SAS Gallery of Science and Technology. The author of the exhibition is Jelena Manojlović, and the Museum of the History of Pharmacy of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Belgrade organized it.
This exhibition honours two extraordinary people who were of great importance for the development of pharmacy studies in Serbia. Academician Stevan Jakovljević was more renowned as a writer, with only a few people knowing him as the first head of the Department of Pharmacy and the first professor of botany at the Faculty of Pharmacy. His legacy includes a substantial body of scientific work. There is even a species of silicate algae that bears his name.
Academician Jovan Tucakov, the founder of the Josif Pančić Institute, and the first professor of pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, is widely known as the best general and scientific connoisseur of herbs. His book, “Lečenje biljem” (Healing with Herbs), is a household name, known even to children from family libraries.
The exhibition, which is on display until 17 September, features archival materials, personal items, audio recordings and photographs from various private collections of these two great figures.
