Exhibition ‘The Legacy of Olga Jevrić’ in Kragujevac
The exhibition The Legacy of Olga Jevrić authored by senior curator Žaklina Marković will open on Thursday, 12 December, at 6 p.m. at the Nikola Koka Janković Gallery in Kragujevac.
Olga Jevrić (1922-2014), whose artistic achievements have been recognized both nationally and internationally since the 1950s, became a full member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1983, the first and only woman sculptor. Perceiving this institution as her second home, Olga Jevrić bequeathed the collection of her small and medium-scale works, as well as her archival records and documentary materials, to SASA. This invaluable collection offers a comprehensive understanding of all phases of her prolific sculptural opus. The entire collection of the Legacy was acknowledged as a national cultural property, listed in both the Registry of National Cultural Property and the Central Catalogue of the Republic of Serbia.
Digital presentation of the collection of sculptures of the Legacy of Olga Jevrić in rotation at SASA will be featured at the Nikola Koka Janković Gallery in Kragujevac, as well as 37 works encompassing important cycles and individual works such as ‘Proposals for a Monument’ (1951-1965) which were the first bold steps forward of Serbian sculpture transitioning from figuration to abstraction, and most recent works in which the authoress highlighted tactile properties of the materials (Layered/Leaning Logs, 1988; Gredna II, 1996; Limes, 1996, etc). This exhibition not only offers a glimpse into the evolution of Serbian modernism in sculpture but also serves as a reflection of the societal and historical context in which these works were created.
In addition to introducing the public to Academician Olga Jevrić’s Legacy collection, the exhibition aims to honour her work and its undisputable significance within the Serbian, former Yugoslav, and European art scenes of the second half of the 20th century.
The Exhibition will remain on display until 12 March 2025.
