Forum on Roma Studies ‘Music of the Roma: Ethnomusicological Research’

The forum on the Roma Studies titled ‘The Music of the Roma: Ethnomusicological Research’ will be held at the SASA Hall 3, on 25 November 2025. The event is organised by the Board for the Study of Life and Customs of the Roma.

The forum will address contemporary global trends in ethnomusicological research, review studies of Roma music in Serbia, and present the results of recent fieldwork on current Roma musical practices. In addition to examining Roma hip-hop, the programme will explore the use of Roma music and the Romani language in film. Special attention will be given to the need for a historiography of research on Roma music and Roma orchestras.

The forum will also showcase the latest issue of the journal Muzikologija, published by the Institute of Musicology of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, which focuses on Roma music in the Balkans.
