HONOURING ZAHARIJE ORFELIN – MARKING 300 YEARS SINCE HIS BIRTH

16 – 30 JANUARY 2026

This year’s collective calligraphy exhibition, organised by the Association of Teachers of Vojvodina, titled ’Honouring Zaharije Orfelin – Marking 300 Years Since His Birth’, includes a complete overview of the life and work of Zaharije Orfelin, two selected works by Novi Sad calligrapher Svetozar Pajić Dijak, works by Inga Laćarac – the most accomplished calligraphy student of the Republic of Serbia of the 2010 generation – as well as calligraphic works created by participants in this year’s teachers’ calligraphy colony, ’On the Path of Zaharije Orfelin’.

The autumn colony and the January exhibition of works by its participants are two events through which, for the past 17 years, the Association of Teachers of Vojvodina has fostered calligraphic expression and preserved the memory of the eminent educator, author, historian and calligrapher Zaharije Orfelin. This year’s exhibition forms part of the programme marking the 300th anniversary of his birth.

The exhibition was curated by Vera Stojišić Gašparovski, head teacher and professor of calligraphy, who has led the programme On the Path of Zaharije Orfelin for many years. The programme includes the study of the work of the renowned calligrapher,  research into calligraphic techniques, workshops, the autumn colony, the January exhibition, and the professional development of teachers and students.

The realisation of the exhibition was supported by the Directorate for Culture of the City of Novi Sad, the Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Primary School in Sremska Kamenica, and the SASA Branch in Novi Sad.
