Lecture ’Assessment of the Influence of EU Legal Framework on the Development of Mining Projects for Lithium and Boron Exploitation in the Republic of Serbia’
As part of the lecture series ’Current State and Perspectives of Natural Resources of Serbia in the Era of Climate Change, Energy Transition and New Directions of Economic Development’, Attorney-at-Law Sreten Đorđević will give a lecture titled ’Assessment of the Influence of EU Legal Framework on the Development of Mining Projects for Lithium and Boron Exploitation in the Republic of Serbia’, on Thursday, 20 November, at 11.30 a.m., at the SASA Grand Hall.
The development of European Union regulations in the field of exploitation of critical mineral resources, which follows the established policy of meeting the EU’s needs for mineral resources, has resulted in significant changes in the approach to the development of the mining sector in the Republic of Serbia. A kind of “strategic” turn towards mining is reflected in Serbia’s connection with the EU and other countries through bilateral international agreements, the accelerated legal development of the mining sector and related administrative areas, as well as through the parallel development of projects in the field of exploitation of critical mineral raw materials of lithium and boron. This paper aims to analyze the basic postulates underlying EU law in the field of mineral resources exploitation and environmental protection, as well as to assess the real impact of these regulations on the coordinated development of mineral resources exploitation rights in the Republic of Serbia and the legal development of current projects for the potential exploitation of lithium and boron in Serbia.
