Lecture of SASA Foreign Member Časlav Brukner

Professor Časlav Brukner, a SASA foreign member, and scientific director of the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) Vienna is to deliver a lecture titled ‘Quantum Entanglement: from Fundamental Questions Curiosity to Quantum Technology – 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics Story,’ at the SASA Grand Hall, on Tuesday, 27 December, at 3 p.m.

This year’s Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger ‘for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science’. The story of their individual research paths is not only a fascinating story of how experimental physics has confirmed most contra intuitive predictions of quantum mechanics, but also a story on the right to conduct research purely out of curiosity, no matter its applications. Ironically, quantum entanglement is nowadays at the centre of the speedy development of quantum information technology.
