Lectures by Professor Musa Khaitov and Professor Rudolf Valenta

Two lectures by eminent world experts, Professor Musa Khaitov, MD, PhD, and Professor Rudolf Valenta, MD, wеre held on Monday, 29 September, at the SASA Grand Hall.

Professor Musa Khaitov, MD, PhD, was the first to deliver his lecture titled ’Innovative Platforms for New Drug Development’. He is an expert in the field of physiology of the immune system, molecular immunology and allergology and the author of more than 550 scientific papers.

Professor Musa Khaitov is the Head of the Immunology Chair at the  National Research Medical University N.I. Pirogov of the Ministry of Health of Russia, as well as of the Clinical Immunology and Allergology within the Federal Clinical Research Centre of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency of the Russian Federation.

He serves as the chief specialist in the fields of allergology and immunology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Federal Medical-Biological Agency of the Russian Federation. He is also a member of the Praesidium of the Higher Attestation Commission, editor-in-chief of the Immunology journal, deputy editor-in-chief of the Biopreparations journal, member of the editorial boards of the journals Allergy, Russian Allergological Journal, Allergy Medicine, Allergology and Immunology, Medicine of Extreme Situations, Immunopathology, Allergology, and Infectology. Additionally, he is a member of the Council for Regional Healthcare under the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, chairman of the dissertation council at the National Research Centre Institute of Immunology of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, and president of the Russian Association of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (RAACI).

The second lecture was delivered by Professor Rudolf Valenta, Head of the Molecular Immunopathology group in the Division of Immunopathology of the Medical University of Vienna. He focused on the topic ’From Allergen Molecules to Next Generation Allergy Vaccines’.

His scientific research, spanning more than three and a half decades, is primarily dedicated to allergy research. Beginning with the molecular and immunological characterisation of major allergens, Professor Valenta has developed recombinant allergen diagnostic tests and therapeutic vaccines based on recombinant allergens and genetically modified hypoallergenics, which have been introduced into clinical use.

He received numerous prestigious national and international recognitions for his work. His scientific output includes more than 770 original papers, reviewed articles and book chapters, as well as over 150 patents and patent applications. Professor Valenta’s papers are widely cited (h-index: 111, citations: 47.189 according to Scopus, as of 18 September 2025). (h-index: 111; citations: 47,189 according to Scopus, as of 18 September 2025). Professor Valenta is particularly recognised for introducing recombinant allergens into both the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases.
