JOSIP TITO BROZ
Statesman and politician
(b. Kumrovec, 7 May 1892 – d. Ljubljana, 4 May 1980)

From 1910 he worked as a metalworker in Zagreb, Kamnik, Czech Republic, Germany and Austria; in 1920 he joined the Social Democratic Party and started working on the political organization of worker unions; president of Yugoslavia from 1945 until his death in 1980

Awards and recognitions: Dr. h. c. of universities of Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Skopje, Priština and Novi Sad, as well as of universities of Algiers, Addis Abeba, Bandung, Halifax, Rangoon, Santiago, Ulaanbaatar and Warsaw; the first doctor of military sciences in Yugoslavia; receiver of all major Yugoslav awards and recognitions as well as foreign: Order of Lenin (1972); Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding (1971)
