University professor: Rutgers College, professor and head of the Department for Microbiology  (1925–1958); and director of the Institute for Microbiology

Membership of SASA: Department of Medical Sciences; foreign member from 17 December 1959

Awards and recognitions: Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for his discovery of streptomycin (1952); winner of numerous awards and honorary doctorates
