Milan Prosen Awarded the Aleksandar Deroko Prize for His Monograph on the SASA Palace

Dr Milan Prosen is the recipient of the Aleksandar Deroko Award for two monographs titled ’The Palace of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts’ and ’Art Deco in Serbian Architecture’ jointly with Vladimir Dulović for the monograph ’The Streets of the Stari Grad  – Topography, Urbanism, Odonymy’. This award, named after a SASA member, is presented biennially with a goal of promoting artwork creation and preserving the cultural heritage of the Stari Grad municipality.

As stated by the Panel: ’Dr Milan Prosen’s monograph The Palace of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts represents a comprehensive study that not only presents the edifice we see today but also offers a complete insight into the many considerations, ideas, concepts, projects, changes and annexes – those realized in the past as well as the ones planned for the future. At the same time, the author sheds light on the emergence and history of Serbia’s most notable scientific institution, as well as important architectural and artistic trends. Milan Prosen’s monograph represents an invaluable scientific and cultural contribution, enriching not only the knowledge on architectural heritage in Belgrade but also our understanding of the foundation and duration of the most renowned scientific institution – the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.’
