Exhibition ‘Roman Limes and Cities in Serbia’

The exhibition, Roman Limes and Cities in Serbia, opened at the SASA Gallery on Wednesday, Aug. 15. The exhibition represents a kind of announcement for the 24th International Limes Congress, which will be held in Belgrade and Viminacium from Sept. 2 to 9. The guests present at the opening ceremony were addressed by Serbian Minister of Education. Science and Technological Development Mladen Šarčević, Academician Mirjana Živojinović, and Director of the Institute of Archaeology Miomir Korać, PhD.

The exhibition is the result of the work of a team of around twenty archaeologists headed by Stefan Pop Lazić, PhD, and comprises items dating from the period between the first and fifth centuries AD. Presented to the public for the first time are the results of the latest investigations of not only the legionary camps at Singidunum and Viminacium, but also of sites at Sirmium, Felix Romuliana, Šarkamen, Naissus, and Mediana.

The organization of the exhibition was supported by the Museum of Srem, the Museum of Vojvodina, the Museum of the City of Belgrade, the Historical Museum of Serbia, the Military Museum in Belgrade, the National Museum in Požarevac, the National Museum in Zaječar, the Museum of Krajina in Negotin, and the National Museum in Niš, whose exhibits visitors will be able to see until Sept. 10.
