Round Table on the Serbs in Slovenia: History, Demography, Social Organisation, Status, and Rights

Organised by the SASA Board for the Study of National Minorities and Human Rights, the round table titled ’ The Serbs in Slovenia: History, Demography, Social Organisation, Status, and Rights’ opens on Monday, 13 October, at 10.30 a.m. at the SASA Hall 3.

Since its establishment, the Board has devoted a segment of its activities to the Serbian minorities living beyond the homeland. In early 2018, an initiative was launched to enable cultural and scientific institutions of these communities to present their work to experts and the wider public in Serbia. A deeper understanding of their achievements contributes to strengthening cooperation between the homeland and Serbian minorities in neighbouring countries, particularly in the areas of science, art, and culture.

So far, Serbian communities from Hungary, Romania, Croatia, and North Macedonia have been presented. However, there has been no systematic or comprehensive presentation of the Serbs in Slovenia within the institutions of the Republic of Serbia.

The round table will address the historical background, demographic trends of Serbian migrations, as well as issues related to cultural, media, and educational rights and the overall status of the Serbian community in Slovenia.
