SASA Department of Language and Literature statement

The Department of Language and Literature of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts has unanimously decided to give its support to the initiative of the SASA Department of Historical Sciences about the issue of reassigning visual appearance of the Belgrade Fortress and Belgrade into the charge of experts.

Having considered this, the Department of Language and Literature, has unanimously supported academician Ljubomir Simović’s explanation:
“Taking into consideration addresses presented at the scientific gathering dedicated to the Belgrade Fortress, which was organized three decades ago, the Department of Historical Sciences of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts opposes most vehemently construction of cable car, which is to be built between the core of the Belgrade Fortress and the other bank of the Sava River. The Department has warned that the cable car would violate the unique monument ensemble and the vision of Fortress being at the confluence of two grand rivers, non-existent in any medieval town.
Faced with ever more dire consequences of an endeavour drastically endangering the identity of our capital – let’s just mention megalomaniac project of Belgrade Waterfront – the Department of Language and Literature gives its full support to the colleagues in the Department of Historical Sciences, and demands to entrust the fate and visual appearance of the Belgrade Fortress and Belgrade to experts.”
