An exhibition titled ’Sava Halugin: A Call to Enthusiasm’ introduces to the public a unique oeuvre of sculptor Sava Halugin, a SASA corresponding member’.  The exhibition will feature sculptures, drawings and paintings which S. Halugin created throughout his fruitful artistic work spanning over five decades. The goal of the exhibition is to present the work of Sava Halugin as a form of artistic consistency and the search for realization and merger of the artistic idea and the medium in which it is manifested.

His first artistic education, Sava Halugin received at the Department of Fine Arts of the Higher Professional School For The Education Of Teachers in Novi Sad. He enrolled in the sculpture department at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Belgrade in 1968, in the same year he completed his studies at the Higher School. He graduated in 1972, in the class of Professor Jovan Kratohvil. After six years, he obtained a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture. Sava Halugin is a member of the ULUS (Association of Fine Artists of Serbia) and ULUV (Association of Fine Artists of Vojvodina). His works are in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, the National Museum of Serbia, the Subotica Contemporary Gallery, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and numerous private collections. Many of his sculptures have been exhibited in public areas, in Subotica, Novi Sad, Kikinda and Sombor.

Since he develops his works in the spirit of understanding the nature of various sculpting materials and searching for a form, there are two major units in Sava Halugin’s creations. The first, related to the work in stone, marked the very beginning of Halugin’s work and lasted for almost twenty years. The second, characterized by bronze as a chosen material of distinct features, paved the way for the artist to explore intensively and bring about achievements within his art, beginning in the mid-1980s up to the present moment. Drawings and paintings occupy a special place in Halugin’s opus. He started exhibiting his drawings very early, at the beginning of his career. Although drawings frequently accompany his sculptures, they are never exact sketches of a more ’permanent form’ but autonomous works.

The exhibition presents a selection of Halugin’s works in bronze, drawings and paintings.

A catalogue featuring his biography, bibliography, expert text and interview with the author (Nela Tonković, Suzana Vuksanović) and reproductions of his works, accompanies the exhibition.
