SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ‘COMPOSER VASILIJE MOKRANJAC (1923-1984) – MUSIC AND SILENCE’
The scientific conference with international participants titled ‘Composer Vasilije Mokranjac (1923-1984) – Music and Silence’ will be held at the SASA Grand Hall, on Monday 11 September, at 10.30 a.m.
In cooperation with the Institute of Musicology SASA, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is organising the Conference which is being held on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Academician V. Mokranjac. Academician Ivan Jevtić, the secretary of the SASA Department of Arts, will give the welcome speech, as well as Aleksandra Mokranjac and Katarina Tomašević.
Academician V. Mokranjac made a major contribution and a lasting impact on Serbian music, culture and pedagogy. He graduated from the Music Academy in Belgrade (nowadays the Faculty of Music), from the Department of Piano (in the class of Professor Emil Hájek) and the Department of Composition (in the class of Professor Stanojlo Rajičić).
Vasilije Mokranjac is the most distinguished Serbian symphonist of the 20th century. In addition to five symphonies and various other symphony orchestra works, his opus includes concert, chamber and solo music, radio dramas and numerous theatre and film scores, among other things. He was a full professor of composition and orchestration at the Music Academy, i.e. the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. He engaged in the translation of expert literature for his pedagogical practices. The lecturers from France, Portugal and Serbia will present their papers.
