Scientific Conference ’Equality through Affirmative Action’
The scientific conference titled ’ Equality through Affirmative Actions ’, organised by the Board for the Study of Life and Customs of the Roma in cooperation with the SASA Board for the Study of National Minorities and Human Rights and the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, will open on Friday, 24 October, at 9.30 a.m. at the SASA Grand Hall.
One of the ways of achieving essential equality in a society is the implementation of affirmative action. Affirmative action seeks to ensure equal opportunities for minority groups within a society, thus granting all advantages enjoyed by the majority population. In this way, certain population groups are given preference in areas such as education, employment, and career advancement, since, due to various societal factors, they faced inequality for a string of years compared to other population groups. The application of affirmative measures also plays a significant role in promoting gender equality.
The conference will focus on three topics, which include affirmative actions related to national minorities; affirmative measures and gender equality, including disabled people and implementation of affirmative measures toward Serbs beyond Serbia (Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Northern Macedonia).
