Scientific Conference ’Liberalism, Neoliberalism and Post-Neoliberalism’
The scientific conference ’Liberalism, Neoliberalism and Post-Neoliberalism’ will open on Tuesday, 9 December, at the SASA Grand Hall, at 10.30 a.m.
The term neoliberalism gained prominence in the last third of the 20th century: it developed into a defining, as well as a debatable concept, which elaborates on the initial socio-economic transformations that began in the West in the 1970s. It also describes transition processes in Eastern and Central Europe. Although for some neoliberalism scholars, it became a scapegoat for explaining virtually every negative development in society, others believe it to be an unjustified use of the term.
Following the 2008 crisis, the understanding of the term changed, bringing about discussions about the possible ‘death’ of neoliberalism. Whether this is true, or whether we live in the age of neoliberalism’s death…the conference will shed light on these topics, including aspects which deal with the major contradictions shaping the contemporary world. The choice of the topic has been determined by an intense dynamics of contemporary political, cultural and economic events, as well as geopolitical shifts, wars and multiple overlapping crisis effects.
