Scientific conference on 100th birth anniversary of Academician Ivan Antić

The international scientific conference on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Ivan Antić (1923-2023), one of the most renowned Serbian architects, professor of the Faculty of Architecture, a member of the Crown Council, a long-standing active member of professional associations and one of the founders of the Engineering Chamber Of Serbia, was held  at the SASA Grand Hall, on 4 December.

In the period spanning 50 years, Architect I. Antić designed structures which embody ideals during which he worked in terms of form, construction and essence. His extensive and award-winning opus encompasses numerous realized and designed architectural works which represent the foundations of Serbian modern architecture. They include the most renowned works of Serbian architecture such as the Museum of Modern Art in Ušče, the Šumarice Memorial Museum (co-authored with Ivanka Raspopović),  the Sport-Recreational Center ‘25 May’, Pinki Sports Hall in Zemun, ‘Dom pionira’ complex together with the Radio Television Belgrade building and the Duško Radović Theatre in Belgrade,  the Olympic swimming pool at Poljud in Split, the ‘Breza’ Hotel in Vrnjačka Banja, the ‘Narvik’ Hotel in Kikinda and the Hyatt Hotel in Novi Beograd, the Secretariat of Interior building in Guberevac, the Politika House in Krupanj, all purposeful and aesthetic architectural forms, made real by content-wise and architectural requirements.

He is a recipient of multiple awards and recognitions: the October Prize of the City of Belgrade for the Museum of Modern Art in 1965, which he received with I. Raspopović, the 7th July Award for the overall architectural opus in 1969, the October Prize of the City of Belgrade and Borba Award for the design of the Sport-Recreational Center ‘25 May’, the Award of the Cultural and Educational Community of Kragujevac for the Šumarice Memorial Museum in 1975 (together with Ivanka Raspopović), the Diploma and Golden Plaque of the City of Split for the contribution to the Eighth Mediterranean Games organization in 1979, Borba Award for the design of the Secretariat of Interior building in Guberevac in 1983 and Vuk’s Prize in 2000.

The scientific conference dedicated to Academician I.Antić, which was realized at the SASA and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, was completed by a presentation of the first monograph about him titled ‘Architectonic, Architect Ivan Antić,’ authored by Dijana Milašinović Marić and Igor Marić, as well as by an exhibition displaying models of important buildings created by students of the Faculty of Architecture in honour of the great figure of Serbian architecture.
