Scientific conference on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Academician Nikola Hajdin

The scientific conference on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Academician Nikola Hajdin  (1923-2019), organized by the SASA Department of Technical Sciences and The Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Belgrade, opens at the SASA Grand Hall, on Monday, 23 October, at 10 a.m.

Academician Nikola Hajdin is one of the leading Serbian scholars and constructors of civil engineering structures of the second half of the 20th and the first decade of the 21st century. The beginning of his career saw his considerable achievements in the field of theoretical mechanics and construction theory. In addition to theoretical results which were immediately recognized by the scientific public, he was a design engineer of a number of structures, first and foremost, dams and bridges, both in our country and abroad. His projects received awards and were often precursors to technical solutions applications, which were subsequently used in our country and the world.

As a professor, Academician N. Hajdin was a mentor to numerous students. His work at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, where he was a vice president in the period from 1994 to 2003, and the president from 2003 to 2015, is also significant.

Experts in the field which Academician N. Hajdin pursued will address the audience at the conference. This will be another opportunity to accentuate the importance he has had for our science in general, and particularly for civil engineering.
